What is Public Relations?

Does anyone truly know what public relations is and the role it plays in a successful business? PRSA (Public Relations Society of America) defines public relations as "a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics." The key words here are "mutually beneficial relationships." This practice is not a one way street.

PR (public relations) describes the way a company communicates with it's desired audience. "PR is about the stories you tell, the relationships you build, and the press you earn to help people connect with your brand in a positive way. It's different from marketing, which is specifically tasked with generating revenue, and it's different from advertising, which relies on paid promotion to share your messages" (Influence and Co.). PR's focus is on the relationships and bonds you can make with people, while maintaining your reputation.

A good public relations plan can make or break your impression on consumers, especially at a time where everything is online.

Make a good impression? You could get a shout out online!

Make a bad impression? The chances are very high of getting a bad review posted publicly.
