PR and Social Media

Can social media be an influential part of your PR?

Of course!

John Boitnott, from INC., laid out 5 ways social media should be used for PR by professionals.

1. To find influencers

2. To identify brand threats

3. To influence journalist's stories

4. To swiftly react to negative press

5. To make announcements

One purpose of social media is to bring people together and make connections. Public relations can capitalize on this by creating their own social media accounts and using them to share information and create relationships.

Paul Bates, Center for Social Impact Communication at the School of Continuing Studies at Georgetown University, listed the best social media channels for companies to use:

- Facebook

- Twitter

- LinkedIn

- Instagram

Bates also informs that it is important to use hashtags when posting online. These hashtags will be like a brief summary to what your post and account is about. Hashtags also help categorize the posts and bring in new views.

Technology and social media will continue to advance. We need to do our part to keep up and utilize it to the fullest.

Get out there and happy posting!
